Michigan Education Association (MEA) Endorses Bridget Brink for Congress
State’s largest educators union — 120,000 members strong — backs Brink’s campaign to beat Tom Barrett in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District
LANSING, MI – Today, the Michigan Education Association (MEA) endorsed Bridget Brink for Congress in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. MEA represents 120,000 teachers, education support professionals and higher-education employees throughout Michigan.
“Bridget Brink knows the importance of education to create opportunity for all. As the daughter of an MEA educator, Bridget Brink’s Michigan public school education propelled her to a 28-year career serving our country as a Foreign Service officer, becoming the first woman to serve as U.S. ambassador in a warzone,” said Lansing Schools Education Association (LSEA) President Chuck Alberts. “A third-generation union member, Bridget will be a champion for public schools, educators, students, and their families. She will fight to reverse cuts to the Department of Education and reinstate essential federal funding for local public schools. We at MEA are proud to endorse Bridget Brink to flip Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District.”
“As a proud graduate of Michigan public schools and the daughter of a Michigan Education Association teacher, I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the MEA," said Bridget Brink, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine and Democrat running for Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District. “My mom was a public school teacher that always put her students first — and instilled in me the power of education. Her MEA membership is what ensured I had excellent health care growing up. And it was a great Michigan public school foundation that enabled me to follow my dreams, became a two-time Ambassador, and serve the American people under five U.S. Presidents. I will work with the MEA and their thousands of members in our district to fight for public schools and make this dream real for every single student in our community.”
Bridget’s field-leading 39th endorsement — her third endorsement by a labor union — comes on the heels of Bridget maintaining her fundraising and cash-on-hand advantage in her latest FEC filing and a new poll showing Brink with a double-digit lead in the MI-07 primary. The Cook Political Report recently highlighted Brink’s momentum, describing her as “the quintessential Trump resister” and “a strong fundraiser.” With over $2.25 million raised since her launch in mid-June, Bridget Brink is the number one fundraiser among Democratic challengers in Michigan.
