Governor Jim Blanchard Endorses Bridget Brink for Congress

Gov. Blanchard: “Bridget has what it takes to win and I know she will fight relentlessly in Congress to cut costs for families, lower health care costs, and protect our democracy.”

LANSING, MI – Today, former Governor of Michigan Jim Blanchard endorsed Democrat Bridget Brink for Congress in Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District.

“I dedicated my life to fighting for Michigan and know what it takes to win here. A sixth-generation Michigander, third-generation union member, and wartime Ambassador, Bridget Brink showed remarkable courage and dedication as a lifelong public servant and then resigned in protest to stand up to Trump,” said Jim Blanchard, former Governor of Michigan and U.S. Ambassador to Canada. “Bridget has what it takes to win and I know she will fight relentlessly in Congress to cut costs for families, lower health care costs, and protect our democracy. I am proud to endorse Bridget Brink to flip Michigan's 7th Congressional District.”

“Governor Jim Blanchard has devoted his life to serving Michigan’s working families including leading our state through one of the worst economic crises in our history," said Bridget Brink, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine and Democrat running for Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District. “Governor Blanchard then served our country with distinction as U.S. Ambassador to Canada — Michigan’s number one trading partner. I am honored and humbled to have his support for our campaign to flip the 7th District and fight to lower costs, fix our broken health care system, and hold Trump accountable.”

Bridget was recently endorsed by the Detroit Free Press: “[She] is most likely to achieve Democrats' goal of attracting independent and crossover support, and flipping the sharply divided district from red to blue in November.” Not only do her “qualifications set her apart,” she is the one “willing to stand up to Donald Trump.” “[Brink’s] campaign is focused on the domestic issues that can affect the daily lives of her constituents in the central Michigan district, centered on Lansing and encompassing mostly rural surrounding areas.”

Brink’s 59th total endorsement follows her best fundraising quarter to date, raising over $630,000 in the second quarter. As polling that shows Brink with a double-digit lead in the MI-07 primary, the Cook Political Report recently highlighted Brink’s momentum, describing her as “the quintessential Trump resister.”
